SCOM Monitoring Analyst

Essential Job Responsibilities
• Responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintenance and monitoring of the on-prem and cloud server infrastructure.
• Establish monitoring requirements for servers and applications as well as develop and deploy alerting strategies.
• Coordinates all maintenance activities including testing and scheduling for maintenance weekends including ensuring that all change records have been approved prior to maintenance events.
• Develops mitigation strategies when vulnerabilities cannot be remediated, coordinates with IT security for review and acts on any directed changes.
• Develops and submits change requests and tracks to completion for software upgrades and patches.
• Develops technical SCOM documentation that details procedures for installation, maintenance, security, configuration, and disaster recovery.
• Responds to events and incidents with possible negative user experience impacts; takes necessary corrective actions promptly.
• Identifies and resolves issues and recommends solutions to address issues.
• Train analysts to on the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and monitoring utilizing SCOM.
Job Requirements
• Extensive system monitoring, auditing, and alerting utilizing System Center Operations Manager(SCOM)
• Perform proactive monitoring of system logs, services, scripts, and applications on servers’ systems, storage arrays for internal and external applications
• Strong scripting knowledge with PowerShell and PowerCLI required.
• Perform administrative tasks from the System Center Operation Manager console.
• Provide application support for the SCOM platform and create and maintain monitoring and notification rules.
• Review and update SCOM console security, apply patches, create SCOM console roles and reviews, and create and install custom Management Packs (MP) as needed.
• Deliver SCOM views via Remote Desktop Web Access, create custom reports on results of SCOM monitoring, use SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) technologies, and provide problem resolution for SCOM components and related custom scripts.
• Experience with the installation, configuration, and administration of Microsoft System Center Operations Manager.
• Experience in application/network performance and availability monitoring.
• Experience using the Microsoft Windows PowerShell scripting engine to automate tasks with SCOM.
• Experience with System Center Configuration Manager.
• Experience with major Microsoft technologies including operating systems, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, and etc.
• Knowledge of server virtualization technologies, preferably VMware and/or Microsoft technologies.
• Knowledge of multiple processor systems, RAID hardware, SCSI attached, and storage area network solutions.
• Knowledge of cloud service offered by the major cloud providers.
• Knowledge of log aggregation technologies and various data source log forwarding methods such as SNMP, Syslog, or API.
