Controls Engineer – Fortune 500 (Winchester, VA)

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is actively searching for a Controls Engineer for our client’s Winchester, VA area operation. The Controls Engineer is responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC based hardware and software, as well as general automation. The Controls Engineer is responsible for ensuring that plants create the best products possible in the most efficient manner. The position will require approximately 50% of the engineer’s time be spent in the manufacturing environment evaluating and implementing improvements. At the same time, they are responsible for ensuring that all equipment is properly maintained per OEM and company standards.  

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Controls Engineering experience in a related field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Technical proficiency in applicable PLC, Automation, and simulation software applications.
  • Strong cause-effect analytical abilities to solve problems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Comfortable presenting to differing management levels.
  • Willing and able to flex schedule to support all shifts.
  • Willing to share, lead efforts of smaller domestic plants to be identified in Newell’s Commercial business
  • MS Office software skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Able to work with minimal supervision in a matrix organization.
  • High energy, self-motivated, enthusiastic, well organized.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Simulation experience with tools such as RoboGuide, PSPICE, SolidWorks, etc.
  • Experience with Fanuc software handling tools (Handling Tool, IRPickTool, PalletPro, and IRVision)
  • Experience with statistical software Minitab or equivalent
  • Experienced in programming languages used in industrial applications (programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python and Matlab a plus)
  • Demonstrated ability to use Lean Continuous Improvement Process tools.
