Job Description

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized Contract Engineering and Technical Staffing firm specializing in Engineering and Manufacturing. We are currently recruiting for a Director, Engineering to oversee all engineering, capital, and facility upgrade project for the company’s operations, inclusive of automations/instrumentation. This person works closely with all local and global operations team members to determine, design, and develop the engineering solutions to achieve the desired outcomes. This position ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with companies established policies and objectives. This position is responsible for planning and directing all aspects of engineering activities and projects within the company. This position serves as the local expert to provide technical guidance for engineering initiatives. Additionally, this position creates local functional strategies and specific objectives for the company. This person leads a team of Project Engineers and Automation Engineers to achieve the desired outcomes. This position reports to the General Manager. This position also supports the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and FSSC 22000 management systems and the Quality, Environmental, and Food Safety Policy as appropriate in the function.

Essential Functions:

    • This person works closely with all local and global operations team members to determine, design, and develop the engineering solutions to achieve the desired outcomes.
    • This position ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with companies established policies and objectives.
    • This position is responsible for planning and directing all aspects of engineering activities and projects within company.
    • This position serves as the local expert to provide technical guidance for engineering initiatives.
    • This position creates local functional strategies and specific objectives for company within the context of the larger organization.
    • This person leads a team of Project Engineers and Automation Engineers to achieve the desired outcomes.
    • Develops, deploys, monitors, and measures internal design standards using current standards and best practices.
    • Works closely with Engineering and Production teams to develop projects that support the manufacturing process and are delivered on time and to budget.
    • Manage internal design reviews and participate in design reviews with internal customers, including, but not limited to, Process Engineers, Project Engineers, Production Management and Operators.
    • Ensures final output of automation designs are functional, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements.
    • Prepares, communicates, and monitors individual workloads to optimize and adhere to project schedules as well as capacity management.
    • Develops department best practices and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (or comparable degree); Masters is preferred
    • Ten (10) years of progressive project engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • Five (5) plus years of leadership experience and a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to operational excellence/continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment
    • Demonstrated behavior as it pertains to the company values
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, computer and leadership skills
    • A demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and work collaboratively at all levels (globally and locally) within the organization
    • Experience within a union environment is preferred.
