Pay:

Responsibilities:
  • Performs electrical engineering assignments related to telecommunications and control systems equipment and issues.
  • Adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Reviews setting sheets and identifies discrepancies, performs root cause analysis of telecommunications and control systems equipment failures.
  • Monitors telecommunications and control systems component conditions for potential problems.
  • Reviews system performance by using data generated from routine inspections or tests.
  • Independently evaluates, selects, and applies electrical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to all aspects of the telecommunications and control systems.
  • Develops potential solutions including field design and engineering to capital projects, like-kind projects, equipment failures and problems identified through various data analyses.
  • Develops modernization projects and other capital improvement projects. Maintains communication and technically consults with Distributors, neighboring Utilities, and other business units including TOM and ESP.
  • Maintains and reviews asset configuration of telecommunications and control systems equipment while insuring compliance with TVA and regulatory standards.

Responsible for all phases of Capital projects related to the telecommunications and control systems. Attends project scoping meetings and design reviews, recommends changes to specification diagrams based on technical and operational issues and provides field man-hour estimates. Works with design staff during engineering phase to understand design philosophy and provide field information and requirements. Utilizes project manager skills during the field construction stage of the telecommunications project. Writes/reviews written work plans, functional tests plans and GSAs. Technically directs the work of craftsmen, technicians and engineers in training during construction and turn-up phase.

Demonstrates competence in tests and turn-up methods, procedures and programming. Routinely performs modifications of significant complexity with minimal technical direction/support. Assumes responsibility for significant work components within large projects.

When assigned to a Nuclear Plant, must be able to obtain and maintain an unescorted plant access certification. Must be able to obtain and maintain S-3 and S-4 medical ratings with no shift work or overtime restrictions. Must be available for 24/7 callout.

Knowledge of transport systems such as MW, PLC, fiber optics, leased line, cellular, and satellite.
Knowledge communication protocols such as TCP/IP, DNP and SNMP.
Knowledge of assets such as channel banks, SONET / multiplexers, digital protection units, carrier equipment, networking equipment, and SCADA equipment.
Knowledge of scientific and engineering principles and the ability to apply them to complex tasks.
Knowledge of industry standards and codes such as applicable IEEE standards and NESC and demonstrated ability to apply them to complex tasks.
Skill in using standard Microsoft office programs.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings related to the telecommunication and control system.
Ability to convey technical information effectively both written and orally.
Demonstrate the ability to use advanced problem solving and analysis techniques.
Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)
Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements
A B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
Four or more years of professional engineering experience.
Certification as a Professional Engineer (desirable).
Membership in professional engineering societies such as IEEE is desirable.
Must have demonstrated proficiency in electrical engineering as evidenced by completion of Engineering Graduate Progression Plan
