Geotechnical Engineer (Consultant)
JSG is currently looking for a Geotechnical Engineer for a 1-year contract in Smithers, BC.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support to monitor, assess, manage and track the geotechnical hazards on pipeline projects
- Work with the team on the project to design the materials and structures ensuing practices are met with regulation safety and cost
- Identify geotechnical hazards/instabilities on Project, select mitigations, and develop site specific installation designs in collaboration with the Company Geotechnical Engineering Subject-Matter-Experts (SME) for hazards impacting the pipeline and/or long-term stability of the Right-of-Way (ROW).
- Produce engineering solutions, act as the Company representative on-site with the pipeline construction contractor.
- Interface with the CGL Implementation Team, Pipeline Construction Contractor's geotechnical engineer, CGL Engineering Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and CGL Geotechnical Engineering Contractor.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in an Engineering Technology discipline from a recognized polytechnic institution, or a relevant combination of drafting and design training and experience.
- Expert drafting skills, with experience in AutoCAD, CADWorx; experience with drawings and CAD standards as well as design standards preferred.
- Experience working with Point Clouds and Recap.
- Experience with 3D Scanning/3D Modeling
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with Projects, Operations, and other technical subject matter experts.
- • Exhibits great interpersonal skills and works effectively in a team environment.
- Effective organizational and time management skills in handling multiple projects, performing a variety of tasks, and meeting required deadlines
- Requires strong customer service focus and ability to maintain effective working relationships with broad base of engineering drawing users and editors.
Technical/Educational Requirements.
• Bachelor's degree or a Masters degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering.
• P.Eng. designation and eligible for registration with EGBC
• Linear pipeline project experience, preferably with large diameter pipelines
• Min. of 3-8 years of experience (preferably majority of the experience is in the field)
• Knowledge in geotechnical investigations and drilling techniques in western Canada, geotechnical instrumentation / monitoring, and open cut/trenchless crossing techniques. In addition, excellent communication skills are a key requirement for this position.
Note that due to COVID-19 Travel restrictions, this position may not be based out of the field at this time.
Working remotely from home - hours would be restricted to 40 hours per week.
