JSG has an immediate need for a Press Set Up & Operation Technician working for a leading manufacturer of high performing batteries, power cells, and re-chargeables, Located in the Cleveland, TN area. 

This person will perform a variety of duties and simultaneously operate cupper and redraw presses to produce high quality, tight tolerance products.

As a Press Set Up & Operation Technician, some of your essential duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Performs activities related to the production of metal stampings including the operation of automatic and secondary power presses and secondary machines; and identifies the status of product at all stages of the manufacturing process.
  • Visually inspects product during production for conformance to part configuration specifications. Utilizes in-process inspection gages and forms, if any, for dimensional verification and documentation. Segregates all scrap material into its proper containers. Identifies and submits product samples to Quality Assurance for In-Process and Last Piece inspection during production in accordance with the requirements.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on press and die sets as well as make minor repairs and adjustments to machine tools and equipment as required.
  • Operates all standard press room machinery including peripheral press equipment and production support equipment.
  • Works with toolmakers to troubleshoot stamping problems related to slug pulling, misfeeds, scrap build up and segregation, part ejection, and product dimensional nonconformance.
  • Ability to understand all Metal Forming processes (sequence of operation, components, etc.) and be the technical resource for this area.
    • Responsibilities include, but not limited to 1) assist product/tooling changeovers, 2) troubleshooting, 3) coaching/training new hires.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to ensure product conforms to specifications. Follow established procedures for disposition of nonconforming products.
  • Equipment Used: cutters, grinding wheels, gauges, micrometer, caliper, digital calipers, punches, dies, and CNC


  • Two to five years of experience as a Press Set Up & Operator.
  • Ability to read non-complex blueprints to determine the source of, and affect repairs on, mechanical problems.
  • Experience verifying dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators and other instruments commonly found in a Tool Room.
  • Experience with SAP process to enter and track malfunction notifications and spare parts procurement.
  • Experience with Transfer Presses - Ex., U.S. Baird, Waterbury-Ferrel, Platarg, etc. As well as Progressive / Metal Stamping Presses Ex., Bruderer, Amada, Aida, Minster, etc.
