Johnson Service Group is looking for a Principal Reliability Engineer for one of our Clients in OR.  This person will work on the latest laser-based via drilling systems to develop and implement reliability analysis, design, validation, and assessment methods to support successful new product introductions.


  • Interface with design engineering and marketing organizations to establish customer use conditions, reliability test conditions, and test plans.
  • Perform and lead the product qualification-testing, including Functional testing, Reliability and Durability testing (HALT, life test, etc.).
  • Perform various reliability analysis – e.g., reliability predictions (modeled and field), reliability allocation, Design FME(C)A, Weibull, Warranty collation and reporting, etc.
  • Conduct product design reviews focused on reliability concerns, critical components, potential wear out failure modes, etc.
  • Work with internal departments and external vendors to develop reliability test and verification plans on subsystems or components.
  • Lead and support cross-functional failure investigations to identify root cause and corrective and preventative action utilizing advanced problem-solving tools (8D, 5 Why, K-T) for early NPI Beta systems
  • Lead Quality Improvement Teams (QIT) with cross-functional stakeholders (engineering, manufacturing, field service, safety) to drive focus on Field Failures impacting OBQ and warranty expense.
  • Mentor reliability engineers and technicians
  • Collaborate with peer engineering experts in other business units


  • BS or MS Degree in Engineering (reliability engineering, electrical/microelectronic engineering, mechanical engineering, material science, industrial engineering) or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of related industry experience
  • 4+ years of experience working with High Power Industrial Lasers or Industrial processing equipment, electronic component failure mechanisms and physics of failure
  • 2+ years of design experience with electronic systems or electromechanical systems is a plus
  • Proven effectiveness working in matrixed organization
  • Strong data analytical and visualization skills with expertise and familiarity with Reliasoft, Labview, Jump, Matlab, PowerBI and Python is a plus.
  • Ability to travel internationally and remotely support key MKS customers. Travel may be expected up to 10%.
