Johnson Service Group is looking for a Public Policy Advocate for one of its Clients in San Jose.  Will provide support to the Office of Government Relations. Should have significant exposure to and the opportunity to engage on Client’s legislative and policy priorities with a focus on the local and federal levels.

  • Provide professional analytical and advocacy support to advance the priorities with elected and appointed officials and key advocacy stakeholders during the duration of the assignment.
  • May also have the chance to serve as the Client representative and advocate during external meetings to influence these same parties and external associations.
  • Will gain experience with processing community sponsorship applications and supporting the unit's needs for water truck, booths, and events during festival season, among other duties.
  • Will prepare specific speaking points, white papers, and other advocacy materials for presentation to and advocacy efforts before external policy and decision makers.
  • Will engage with strategic external stakeholder partners and help shape public policy and opinion while building the Client’s image, brand and reputation.
  • In addition to a routine work schedule, this person will work on some nights and weekends.
  • Strong writing skills, able to prepare high quality and articulate written reports and presentations.
  • Strong computer skills: MS Office – Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently and responsibly.
  • Applies impeccable judgment and responsible decision-making in situations with minimal oversight.
  • Manages demanding workloads with grace; juggles multiple projects with competing deadlines; thinks quickly on their feet; and exudes a 'bring it on' positive attitude.

  • Strong analytical skills (e.g., researching, analyzing, evaluating, developing, and presenting recommendations for continual improvement of operations and special projects).
  • Knowledge and understanding of drafting public policy, analyzing impacts of policy on existing regulations or operations, and event planning a plus.
  • Understanding of public sector processes and governance a plus.
  • Strong understanding of the inner workings of local, state and/or federal legislatures, committees, government bodies and agencies a plus.
  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.  Directly related experience may be substituted for the college requirement on the basis of one and one-half years of experience for one year of education to a maximum of four years.
  • One (1) to Three (3) years of experience performing administrative, operational, management, or financial analysis of complex issues.
Rate starting at $45.00
