Johnson Service Group is recruiting for a, Senior Civil Engineer, for an 12-month contract assignment with Bechtel National at the UPF facility in Oak Ridge, TN.

Local candidates preferred – Bechtel is not offering per diem.

Role Overview:

This role will lead design development of civil engineering designs for the project by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, data sheets, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in executing design development and producing

design documents for government customers in accordance with DOE standards.

  • Work with other civil engineers and technical disciplines in a team environment.
  • Development of grading and backfill design and drawings.
  • Road design and design documents.
  • Storm drain and sanitary sewer design documents.
  • Foundation design and drawings.
  • Assist with boring oversight, and site inspection and review of existing facilities.
  • Perform formal calculations and drawings.
  • Review vendor information from subcontractors and integrate it into the design solution.
  • Execute to schedule requirement while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
  • Provide guidance for civil engineering design/review on project.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 13+ years of relevant experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required
  • Experience with Microsoft office programs, VISIO, and other common computer programs
  • Applicant must be able to use Bentley’s Pondpack, Stormcad, and Sewercad computer programs.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, as well as Bechtel Corporate guides and standards
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Must be able to obtain site security badge for access to work site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000 and/or NQA-1.
  • Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Energy.
  • Experience in complex excavation approaches and construction execution.
  • Experience with the use of MicroStation 2D/3D CAD platform. Proficient in Geopak and/or InRoads software
  • Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI MasterFormat specifications, or SpecsIntact.
  • Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
  • Prior experience as a Resident, Title III, or Field Engineer preferred.
