Job Description Summary

Serves as Primary contact for all Structural and Mechanical Systems Design Engineering activity for legacy Type Certificated Aircraft Group. Will also act as primary member of the Change Control Board (CCB).  Generates drawings, EO/ECN drawing changes, and undertakes technical research to resolve production and/or manufacturing problems. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create/develop engineering drawings as part of Type Design data, to support changes for production/fabrication/installation of parts/installations on the Twin Commander aircraft product line.
  • Coordinate with other Engineering groups as required to research all necessary data in support of kit/modification design development.
  • Coordinate with Supply chain, Sales and pricing groups as required to support development of modifications/kits.
  • Manage the Request For Change (RFC) process including providing RFC status, overseeing the Type Design Changes.
  • Hold/Manage the Change Control Board (CCB) involving other company departments on a regular basis, providing a review/direction/priority of tasks.
  • Support the Technical Support Engineer with Customer technical research/information requests.
  • Investigates and resolves all tooling, quality assurance, manufacturing and engineering to resolve technical issues. Assists manufacturing and production by providing technical solutions to structural problems which arise in the shop during fabrication and assembly operations.
  • May be required to support the Metro/Merlin product line design activities.
  • Provides input to and updates to engineering manuals as required.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering, or related technical discipline and minimum of 10 years of design engineering experience., or 15 years of aircraft design experience may substitute.
    • Experience required in aircraft structural design and mechanical systems. Most tasks are structurally related and hence this background is essential. Occasional tasks relate to Mechanical Systems and this experience is preferred but not essential.
    • Must be able to read and interpret aircraft engineering drawings, their revisions, aircraft effectivities, and other engineering documents.
    • Thorough knowledge of general aircraft design practices and procedures.
    • Familiar with Aircraft OEM documents – SRM, AMM, WDM, IPC, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness, CMM’s.
    • CAD CATIA and/or Solidworks knowledge essential, along with IGES/STP file use.
    • Familiar with change control board and configuration management practices.
    • Comfortable holding various engineering meetings.
    • GD&T Trained
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder.
