Johnson Service Group is currently searching for Sr. Structural Engineer in NW Indiana. This position requires experience in heavy industrial engineering projects, preferably in the steel, petrochemical, chemical, mining and power generation industries.  The position requires the Senior Structural Engineer to perform in varying roles related to detailed engineering design, project execution, technical support, and customer relationship development. Will be working in the office with a few site field trips.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering studies, calculations, detailed design documents and specifications, project cost estimates, and providing installation support services.
  • Develop, maintain, and upgrade technical standards/specifications to be used on specific projects, as well as centralized design basis and historical references.
  • Complete all tasks in accordance with design and project execution procedures and guidelines as set forth in corporate Quality Management System.
  • Provide technical support for customers and support regional business development initiatives as a technical recourse.
  • Review calculations, drawings, and reports produced by other structural engineers in the office.
  • Manage project progress relative to project plan, schedule, and budget.
  • Perform finite element analysis for complex, high-temperature gas ducts and stacks.
  • Contribute to company improvements in work flow, methods of work execution, and continued standards improvements.
  • Provide  position for project design basis through code interpretation of codes including IBC, AISC, ASCE, ASME, API, etc. Strong familiarity with structural building codes, petroleum industry design standards, heavy industry lifting and crane device codes, and high-temperature design applications is strongly preferred.
  • Coordination of activities for projects which develop into continued work for repeat business with established clients and for expansion into work with new clients.
  • May supervise work of others. Functions as project manager, project leader or process consultant.
  • Interfaces directly with client’ representative as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least seven (7) years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural  Engineering or Engineering Technology, with interest in fieldwork, or surveying, or equivalent experience in related fieldwork
  • Preference given to candidates with experience in heavy industrial environments and marketplaces.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Thorough understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including general office products, design and business enterprise software
  • Knowledge of construction and planning procedures
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/schematics
  • Must be an organized person who can keep data organized from start to finish on a project
  • Ability to prioritize work on multiple projects
  • Reasoning skills and ability to solve practical problems
  • Must have dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurance
  • Must be able to pass a fit for duty test
