Johnson Service Group is recruiting for a Senior Wiring Designer for a great client of ours in Hicksville, NY for a 6 month contract with an opportunity for extensions.

  • The Senior Wiring Designer’s responsibility is to develop and issue design and construction drawings and material requisitions for Control and Protection projects.
  • This work includes design of new substations, modifications and expansion of existing substations, addition/expansion of SCADA, and replacement of existing relay systems.
  • Design documents, drawings, software applications and their data files are property of our client and shall not copied or shared with any other company or individuals.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Be able to develop complex wiring diagrams from relay functional diagrams, AC and DC schematics utilizing experience and typical wiring guidelines for the LIPA substations.
  • Participate in project conceptualization meetings to discuss specific projects with Engineering, Operating, Maintenance and Project Management Departments
  • Participate in pre-design field walk-downs with the operating, maintenance and constructing organizations.
  • Perform wire checks of another wiring designer’ project unassisted.
  • Meet and work with field forces to discuss and review proposed designs in the engineering and design phase and to resolve design issues during the construction phase of a project.
  • Meet and/or communicate with manufacturer’s representatives to resolve manufacturer design and drawing problems.
  • Participate in the review of new equipment and materials.

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidate should have a minimum of five years’ experience in design and drafting of electrical wiring drawings. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering field preferred; two years of technical college are desirable.
  • The candidate must be proficient in the use of AutoCAD.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of protective relaying and substation equipment is desirable. Interpersonal skills are also required.
  • Valid driver’s license and must have their own transportation.  All candidates will be required to have a reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, current auto insurance coverage, and a clean driving record. The Seller staff member will be responsible for maintenance of the transportation vehicle.
