SUMMARY
The Controller ensures the accuracy and integrity of cost accounting and financial reporting as well as providing management with information and analyses for use in making decisions critical to the success of the business.
Acts as a finance business partner for the three divisions, working with the site managers to deliver on the administrative, financial & site support.
This role reports directly to the President and will work closely with plant management at all sites.
Responsibilities include month-end closing, cost accounting, financial reporting, variance analysis, cost savings analysis, internal controls compliance, balance sheet management (including inventory and fixed assets), budget analysis and development, capital expenditures, purchasing, forecasting and Information Systems management.
This position will work with General and Plant managers to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, perform cost/benefit analyses, make trade-off decisions impacting product development and pricing, and execute process improvement actions.
Controllership Accounting and Internal Controls
Prepare the month-end plant closing activities to ensure an accurate and timely closing.
Prepare various schedules as part of month end closing and reporting requirements, including financial and operation KPI’s.
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
Oversee inventory accounting to ensure controls and procedures are in place (physical count, cycle counts, and monthly reconciliations). Investigate significant physical inventory variances to determine causal factors; recommend specific courses of action to resolve problem areas.
Responsible for the hourly division payroll.
Responsible for accuracy and integrity of fixed assets.
Follow cost accounting procedures to accurately report operating results that meet US GAAP and management reporting requirements.
Adhere to internal controls, policies and procedures for plant manufacturing operations and ensure all activities are US GAAP compliant.
Budgeting/Forecasting
Lead the forecasting processes (monthly, annual) based on key operational assumptions to accurately predict future performance, including analyzing cost trends and patterns.
Prepare the annual operating budget including all components of P&L and Working Capital as necessary by interfacing across many departments.
Lead the annual development of standard costs by product
Financial Reporting & Analysis / Management Support
Manages and supports staff areas including Accounting, Information Technology, & Purchasing.
Mentors, coaches, trains, and develops teams.
Weekly review of AP and AR to support/optimize cash management.
Prepare and analyze monthly actual results and variance analyses to budget/forecasts.
Support the management team to assure achievement of the plant objectives, including analyzing data to initiate improvements and cost savings.
Interpret and report events and practices having an impact on site risk and product cost operations.
Partner and collaborate with plant management to clearly articulate the linkage between operational and financial performance.
Maintain and continuously improve the systems which support the plant product costing.
Evaluate, identify, and help implement systems and software to provide critical financial and operational information. Assists in building business processes and tools that simplify the work and improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Support ad hoc analysis & projects in support of the plant operations.
Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of employee(s) to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred.
6+ years of financial and accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
Occasional travel may be required.
High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts
Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management.
Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
