Johnson Service Group, an award winning staffing firm has an immediate opening for a Public Works Accountant for a 6 month contract position to work on-site in Costa Mesa, CA.

Summary
We are seeking a Temporary Accountant to join the Financial Services Department, reporting to the Controller. The role involves professional accounting duties such as preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling financial transactions, statements, records, and reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain accuracy of general, revenue, and expenditure ledgers and subsidiary financial systems.
Prepare journal entries for various accounts; analyze financial statements and investigate significant variances.
Reconcile financial ledgers and records; prepare financial statements, reports, and supporting schedules; resolve discrepancies.
Prepare, review, and organize documents for interim and annual audits; conduct periodic inspections of petty cash, audit logs, and receipts.
Perform project accounting, including job costing for various projects; ensure accurate data entry for labor, overhead, inventory, and equipment use.
Maintain fixed asset records, track capital purchases, update spreadsheets, and ensure alignment with general ledger balances.
Provide analytical and administrative support to the Controller; support special projects through data research, compilation, and reporting.
Ideal Candidate:
Experience as an Accountant, preferably in a government or public sector setting.
Proficiency in maintaining general ledgers and subsidiary financial systems.
Experience preparing journal entries and conducting month-end reconciliations.
Familiarity with reviewing Accounts Payable and performing project accounting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible accounting experience.
Software: Great Plains a Plus, Microsoft Office
