Johnson Service Group is looking for a part-time Assistant Engineer for one of our clients in San Jose. this person will support critical regulatory compliance and water quality initiatives through fieldwork, data analysis, and technical assistance. The role works closely with water quality engineers and plant operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and optimize treatment processes.
Responsibilities:
Support regulatory compliance projects, including microplastics and golden mussel sampling programs.
Assist in implementing filter monitoring and inspection programs, including water sample collection across multiple treatment plants.
Perform filter floc retention analysis and compile, analyze, and graph operational data.
Contribute to the development of operational and water quality dashboards to support predictive analytics and AI readiness.
Conduct fieldwork at water treatment plants, reservoirs, and creeks.
Assist water quality engineers with bench-scale, pilot-scale, and plant-scale studies to optimize treatment processes and prevent water quality violations or customer complaints.
Support source water management programs to meet regulatory sampling and monitoring requirements.
Compile and maintain operational datasets, including developing and updating Excel tables, charts, and reports.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
A valid California Driver’s License
Experience with water quality monitoring and analysis, including basic laboratory skills (e.g., measuring pH, chlorine residual).
Experience with bench-top and/or pilot studies is preferred.
Understanding of drinking water regulations, water treatment processes, water chemistry, and process engineering principles.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications to complete work assignments.
Basic programming experience and understanding of programming logic (e.g., VBA in Excel, MATLAB, R).
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports and correspondence.
Ability to perform fieldwork year-round in a variety of climatic and geographic conditions.
Ability to carry and/or maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
