Electrical Designer III (Power Generation / Industrial Projects) Contract – Birmingham, AL (anticipated 9–12 months with strong potential for extension). Very competitive pay, time-and-a-half for OT, Mob/Demob, and strong per diem.
Join a growing engineering team supporting power generation and infrastructure projects, including gas turbines, substations, renewables, BESS, and datacenter power systems. You’ll develop construction-ready electrical designs that go directly into the field. Requirements:
Associate degree in Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field
7+ years of electrical design experience in industrial or power environments
Experience with power distribution, MCCs, and motor control systems
Familiarity with EPC or multidisciplinary project environments
Strong knowledge of NEC and electrical design standards
Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Plant 3D, Revit, or Navisworks preferred
Ability to interpret vendor drawings and equipment layouts
Responsibilities:
Develop electrical deliverables including:
MCC one-lines, layouts, schematics, and cable schedules
Grounding, lighting, and power plans
Create installation drawings from vendor documentation
Perform calculations (lighting, voltage drop, conduit/tray fill, sizing, protection)
Determine MCC and substation loading
Route conduit and cable tray systems
Support MTOs, cost estimates, and construction packages
Coordinate with civil, structural, and mechanical teams
Provide field support during construction/startup
Identify scope changes and support project scheduling
Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of electrical systems, materials, and construction practices
Experience producing constructible designs
Familiarity with EPC workflows and coordination
Experience with tools like ElecDes, Dialux, or similar (preferred)
Proficient in Microsoft Office
