Johnson Service Group is searching for a Senior Structural Engineer to support the ground infrastructure component of the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. This is an onsite position just outside Salt Lake City, Utah.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this role as Senior Structural Engineer, you will support the structural design for the project. This will entail originating/checking complex structural calculations, specifications, material requisitions, and technical studies or reports. Additionally, checking of design drawings and review and coordination of vendor information and leading technical discussions and constructability reviews.
Schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the civil/structural engineering work for a global business unit, a project or staff group to include the preparation of original designs layouts, details, drawings and specifications for structures, building, roadways, railroads, etc.
Participates in the design, development and modification of Civil/Structural components
Designs structures using knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering
Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements
Originates and checks structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions
Analyzes problems with conflicting design requirements, sketches ideas and possible solutions
Analyzes and reports on the suitability of unconventional materials, techniques and/or difficult coordination requirements
Assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders
Completes Civil/Structural documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance
Construction management in identifying and complying with project Civil/Structural requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard Civil/Structural engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.

Coordinates Civil/Structural engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction and other functional groups
Prepares conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals
Provides technical assistance to other Civil/Structural personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues and industry codes and standards
Assist in constructability reviews.
Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports.
Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate engineers and designers.
Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
US Citizenship Required
Ability to independently execute the design of steel and/or concrete structures.
Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, IBC and ASCE 7.
Proficient in the use of structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or STAAD.Pro
Experience with CADD applications, such as Tekla, Revit or MicroStation.
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures.
Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.
Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software.
Thorough knowledge of the provisions of ACI 349, ASCE 4-98 standards.
Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense
Experience with procurement automation tools
Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact
Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide
Targeted pay for this position is $75.00/Hour
