Job Title: Environmental Specialist

Overview:

The Environmental Laboratory provides analytical services used for regulatory compliance, contract specification verification and asset protection.  This position provides support for sample receiving and customer kits, essential to ensure customer expectations are met for various sample categories. Routine responsibilities include cleaning sample containers, building sample kits, and assisting project managers with sample receipt.  Other duties may include providing support for other positions or other areas of the lab, as needed. 

This position is part of the Environmental Test Lab’s Lab Reporting & Quality Control Group (QA/QC), which provides analytical services for regulatory compliance, contract verification, and asset protection.

Requirements

PPE:
  • Worker will need laboratory safety glasses, disposable nitrile gloves and lab coat to safety perform duties.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety requirements of 29 CFR 1910 are desired.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or a related field, with at least 15 semester hours of chemistry preferred.
  • Familiarity with quality control requirements for analytical methods is preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • The role primarily supports sample receiving and customer kit preparation, ensuring customer expectations are met for various sample categories.
  • Routine duties include cleaning sample containers, assembling sample kits, and assisting project managers with sample receipt.
  • Additional responsibilities may involve supporting other lab positions or areas as needed.
Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Work safely and proactively address unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Assist QC project managers with sample receipt (e.g., checking pH, labeling samples).
  • Build sample kits and maintain supplies, such as transformer oil syringes.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and co-workers.
  • Collaborate with employees, management, and customers to manage analytical and quality control procedures, ensuring cost-effective, timely, and accurate lab services.
  • Partner with laboratory sections to uphold quality control processes and maintain the lab’s quality management system integrity.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Required attention to detail.
  • Ability to build relationships with internal/external groups and customers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of technical procedures and problem-solving with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accurate typing skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA laboratory safety requirements (29 CFR 1910).
  • PPE: Safety glasses, disposable nitrile gloves, and lab coat required for supplemental workers.

This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary.
