Johnson Service Group is looking for a part-time Engineering Technician for one of our clients in San Jose. This person will support environmental and engineering projects. The role involves assisting with field inspections, conducting independent fieldwork, identifying and managing invasive plant species, and contributing to GPS data collection and GIS-based mapping.
Responsibilities:
Assist engineers and environmental staff with field inspections of project sites.
Conduct independent fieldwork including vegetation surveys, erosion control inspections, and site assessments.
Identify, monitor, and manage invasive plant species using appropriate methods and tools.
Operate GPS equipment to collect geospatial data for use in project planning and analysis.
Assist with GIS mapping and data analysis, including map creation, data entry, and spatial data management.
Maintain accurate field notes, photos, and documentation for reporting and compliance.
Ensure adherence to environmental regulations, safety protocols, and project requirements.
Assist with other engineering or environmental support tasks as needed.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Outdoor field skills
GIS skills
Ability to hike 5 miles a day through rough terrain
4x4 driving skills
Knowledge of local ecology and native and invasive plants
CA drivers license
High school diploma or equivalent, plus at least twelve (12) college semester units in engineering, geography, mathematics, or a related field.
Rate: $32.43 part-time contract
