Job Description

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Handling Design Engineer, for a 12-month contract assignment supporting the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant near Richland, WA.  This onsite role offers a W2 hourly base rate with time and a half for overtime, per diem, and mobilization / demobilization.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Pay Rate -  up to $85.00+ per hour pending education and experience


Project Overview:
We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. The Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant is located 22 miles northwest of Richland, WA.

Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of the Mechanical Handling Team designing the areas of material handling equipment, treatment, and vitrification systems, and/or supporting utilities.
  • Prepare 2D and 3D models, detail drawings, design proposal drawings, and simulations.
  • Meet with engineers to establish their requirements for a new or existing mechanical designs.
  • Working on 2D and 3D CAD and CAE software, such as SolidWorks, MicroStation and IGRIP, to create drawings and models in line with the design drawings and specifications.
  • Creating designs in accordance with company regulations and client standards and values.
  • Support the procurement of equipment by developing procurement packages, reviewing quotations, and evaluating them technically.
  • Review of vendor submittals and resolution of technical issues during the procurement of mechanical equipment.
  • Support the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

Education / Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in design of mechanical handling equipment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD and/or CAE software programs (specifically SolidWorks, MicroStation and IGRIP).
  • Familiar with equipment procurement, developing procurement packages,  and reviewing/evaluating quotations.
  • Familiar with regulations and industry codes and standards affecting complex engineering work within discipline.
  • Familiar with effort required to prepare standard discipline deliverables and knows how to prepare standard engineering budgets and schedules within discipline.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize Microsoft office suite of products.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineering-in-Training (EIT or equivalent) in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Experience in equipment design analysis in DOE or commercial nuclear facilities.
