Johnson Service Group is looking for a pat-time Meter Reader for one of our clients in the Bay Area. The Meter Reader role involves reading and recording water meter data, connecting or disconnecting services, and inspecting meters and plumbing for damage. The position requires frequent customer interaction, minor maintenance tasks, and safe vehicle operation.
Typical Duties:
Read a variety of water meters in an assigned area and record meter information into a hand-held computer; coordinate information download with Customer Account Representatives for billing activities.
Visit customer premises to connect or disconnect service; locate, read, and turn meters on or off as required.
Inspect meters, connections, plumbing fixtures, and lines for leaks or damage; clean around meters for accessibility; initiate field orders for repairs and report leaks or unsafe conditions; report unauthorized water use or unusual conditions; perform minor maintenance such as replacing lids and painting curbs.
Fill out door hangers to alert customers about unusually high consumption, obstructions preventing meter reading, or required service sign-up.
Re-read meters and investigate high billing complaints or consumption discrepancies; recommend appropriate remedial action.
Answer customer inquiries and provide information on District regulations governing service.
Safely operate a vehicle in connection with duties.
Requirements:
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of employment with substantial day-to-day interaction with employees or the public, providing services with accurate attention to detail and adherence to procedures or standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Customer service principles and practices.
Methods and procedures for reading and inspecting water meters and lines.
Safe work practices, including safe driving.
Modern office practices, methods, and computer applications related to the work, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet software
Rate $37.34/hr. part-time 20 hours a week
