Job Description

JSG is hiring up to 3 Property / Casualty Insurance Underwriters.
Location: St. Petersburg, FL / Fort Lauderdale, FL
* Hybrid work environment (3 days in office)
** Hight New Worth experience REQ!

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Basic knowledge of market trends. Able to follow and implement market strategies. 
  • Solid understanding of underwriting guidelines, principles, and philosophies. 
  • Makes sound underwriting decisions and accurately identifies risks. 
  • Basic knowledge of compliance and insurance laws. 
  • Basic understanding of insurance financials. 
  • Partner with a designated group of agents by building strong relationships, counseling on creative solutions, and taking time to understand what’s most important to the agent and client 
  • Consult and help agents understand our appetite and apply that knowledge to risk selection 
  • Utilize available tools to help monitor the quality of your book of business and use the knowledge in your individual decisions 
  • Collaborate with Distribution and Marketing colleagues to co-create plans that drive the business. 
  • Understanding and managing risks
  • Contributing proportionately to production goals
  • Meeting or exceeding business unit service standards 
  • Building or improving trading partner relationships 
  • Demonstrating sound underwriting discipline 
  • Ownership and management of production within assigned underwriting territory 
  • Solicit new business opportunities from assigned customers 
  • Understand and achieve retention and rate goals for renewal business 
  • Strong negotiation, marketing, and problem-solving skills 
  • Highly capable of prioritizing and multi-tasking 
Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience in High Net Worth insurance underwriting. 
    • E&S Experience is preferred.
  • Technical underwriting knowledge and skills reflective of progression in positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Must strive to provide service levels that exceed industry standards and demonstrate teamwork across functional areas.
  • Possess the aptitude to work in a highly competitive market, be innovative in business production and retention; be able to adapt to changing markets and internal requirements.
  • Strong time management skills, being able to prioritize, and handle multiple tasks.
  • Resourceful and results driven with strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and internet research tools.
