Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Radiological Engineering, this position will specialize in the areas of source terms, normal and accident dose analysis, atmospheric dispersion modeling, particle transport, reactor analysis, and shielding analysis with a focus on pressurized light-water reactors and primary systems.
This position requires a self-motivated professional with experience working in a remote platform (Webex, phone, email), with the necessary qualification to obtain U.S. export-controlled software through the Radiation Safety Information Computational Center (RSICC).
Our client is searching for someone with experience interfacing with NRC regulations in support of modifications to a nuclear power reactor design or operating license, or supporting an application review of these types of NRC licensing qualifications.
Responsibilities:
Perform engineering calculations and analysis using industry-standard methods and simulation tools (e.g., NRCDose, SCALE, RADTRAD, MCNP, and ADVANTG) with little to no supervision.
Develop resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and innovation.
Plan, organize, and perform innovative and complex engineering assignments on a team dedicated to the development of an engineering project; interpret scope and requirements of projects; develop alternatives.
Commits to the understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.
Exercise judgment within broadly defined policies and practices using professional principles and company objectives to resolve complex issues.
Interact with internal peers and management on matters requiring coordination within the department and sector
Represent the department as a technical resource both inside and outside the department.
Mentor and train junior engineers.
Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or radiological health physics is required. (An advanced degree is preferred.)
5+ years of experience in nuclear/radiological engineering or health physics is required.
Must have at least 2 years (either additional or concurrent) experience in Pressure Water Reactor (PWR) or Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) design analysis using radiological engineering software such as NRCDose, SCALE, RADTRAD, MCNP, and ADVANTG.
Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
