JSG is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer/Project Manager to join our offices in the Los Angeles/Orange County area. This role involves leading bridge design and rehabilitation projects, managing overall project execution, and providing technical support and oversight in bridge planning, design, construction, inspection, operations, and maintenance. The successful candidate will spearhead project teams from inception to completion, assuming roles such as Task Leader or Project Manager, and coordinating with other roadway/rail task leaders/project managers on structural engineering tasks. Key Responsibilities:
Lead project teams through all phases of bridge design and rehabilitation projects.
Perform and review structural analyses and design calculations in accordance with AASHTO, AREMA, Caltrans Bridge Design Practice Manual, and other relevant codes.
Mentor junior bridge designers and direct CADD staff.
Work on various bridge projects including cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete, precast/prestressed concrete, segmental concrete, steel girder, and truss bridges for highways, freight rail, and light rail.
Apply demonstrated knowledge in seismic design of bridges.
Preferred office locations are Los Angeles or Tustin, with additional options in Santa Clarita or Ontario.
Additional Responsibilities:
Identify and pursue bridge design/rehab projects advertised by local jurisdictions in the LA and OC markets.
Develop bridge design deliverables such as concept reports, planning studies, type selection reports, design calculations, construction plans, specifications, estimates, and schedules.
Ensure on-time, on-budget project deliverables that meet or exceed industry standards.
Check engineering calculations, drawings, estimates, specifications, and schedules for accuracy and compliance.
Manage and deliver condition inspection and reporting of in-service bridges.
Develop and check load rating calculations and reports.
Participate in client and project development teams.
Assist in the development of proposal documents.
Communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in civil/Structural Engineering.
Minimum of 10+ years of bridge design engineering experience, with 5+ years in project management.
Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in California.
Experience with local public agencies such as the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering, Los Angeles County Public Works, Orange County, or Caltrans.
Proficiency in bridge and structural design software applications like CSi Bridge/SAP 2000, Midas, RetainPro, LEAP, PGSuper/PGSplice, LPile/Group.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and general calculation software such as MathCAD.
Knowledgeable in AASHTO LRFD and Caltrans bridge design standards.
Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Experience managing CAD staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in civil/Structural Engineering.
California Structural Engineering (SE) license (not required, but desirable).
