Johnson Service Group (JSG) is seeking a Sr. Civil/Structural Engineer (NASA) for a 4-month + contract assignment supporting the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL. This position offers a W2 hourly pay rate of $75.00 - $85.00 (according to experience), time and a half for overtime.

Project Overview:
The ML2 project is the design and construction of a launch platform for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The purpose of ML2, located at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), is to provide a launch platform for the Space Launch System (SLS), an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions. ML2 includes many different subsystems that must operate and fit within the constraints of the structure and provide a physical interface with KSC launch sites’ ground systems.
Responsibilities
• Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel calculations, specifications and material requisitions.
• Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.
• Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.
• Manage specifically assigned project activities.
• Assist in constructability reviews.
• Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports.
• Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate engineers and designers.
• Schedule and coordinate off-project review requirements for engineering deliverables.
• Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.
Basic Qualifications
• US Citizenship is required.
• Prior experience working complex concrete and/or steel designs.
Minimum Qualifications
• Ability to independently execute the detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures.
• Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, and ASCE 7.
• Proficient in the use of structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or STAAD.
• Experience with CADD applications, such as Revit or Tekla.
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for steel structures.
• Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.
• Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
• Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
• Excellent listening, oral and written communication, planning and organizational skills are essential.
• Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen, and background check.
Preferred Qualifications
• Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software.
• Thorough knowledge of the provisions of AISC & ASCE 7.
• Necessary skills to present technical subjects with competence and confidence.
• Experience in resolving field problems associated with proposed changes from Construction and working through Non-Conformances.
• Professional Engineering License
