Project Overview:
Located at Kennedy Space Center, the Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) Project is the design and construction of a launch platform for NASA to provide an advanced launch vehicle that will fill America’s need for deep space missions.
Responsibilities:
In this position the Cryogenic Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) will be the engineering representative overseeing the procurement of cryogenic skids in support of the Mobile Launcher 2 (ML2) project. This oversight role will need to be performed in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Note: Candidates should have have fabrication experience beyond just design.
As the Cryogenic Engineering SME, you will be responsible for overseeing all technical aspects associated with the procurement of four cryogenic skids. The primary focus will be oversight and SME level expertise on fabrication associated with VJ pipe. It will also include oversight of supplier fabrication activities including but not limited to welding, NDE, performance testing and cleaning. In this position, you will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines, the suppliers/vendors, and the client in the development of the design.
Job Responsibilities:
• Manage discipline work process execution and assure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standard.
• Be accountable for error-free deliverables.
• Produce cryogenic system procurement specifications and datasheets
• Provide oversight to Vacuum-Jacketed pipe/component design and fabrication
• Review vendor documentation including welding and NDE submittals, test procedures and reports, quality information, etc.
• Travel to the skid fabricator quarterly (at a minimum) in an oversight role
• Coordinate with other disciplines
• Contribute directly to the cost-effective design of cryogenic mechanical systems and equipment.
• Identify major technical uncertainties and present solution options for management decisions.
• Serve as an advisor for the analysis and solution of engineering problems and interpret drawings, verbal instructions, and applicable codes relevant to project requirements and the ability to articulate explanations.
• Perform other related work as assigned by Project Engineer.
Basic Qualifications:
• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university or college with thirteen (13) years of progressive related experience.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience supporting cryogenic system design and fabrication.
• Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• US Citizenship Required.
Minimum Qualifications.
• Related experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development, fluid system design, hydraulic, heat transfer, and thermodynamic calculations, and equipment specification and design development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.
• U.S. Professional Engineering License in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Chemical Engineering (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
• Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
• Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
• Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
• Extensive knowledge and application of ANSI/ASME Codes and Standards.
• Extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering work processes, procedures, and specifications.
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
