This Factory Engineer is primarily responsible to establish manufacturing processes and apply innovative systems to improve company workflows. The Factory Engineer sets criteria for quality and speed, then consistently measure manufacturing behaviors, and evaluate their success. They adjust production lines and integrate new technology to improve the supply and production chain. Reporting to the VP of Operations, this role will operate out of our manufacturing facility located in Franklin Park, IL

Job Description

• Yield improvements and operational constraint reduction. Work with production to understand pain points and areas of inefficiency. Understand the sources of waste and quality issues. Present to management on status of production operations with identified projects for improvement. Collect and use data to drive decisions.

• Responsible for engineering and production tasks associated with new product development. Be the process expert to develop timeline and required investments. Innovative thinking, task accomplishment and dedication to timeline are essential for success.

• Work with department management to define and analyze opportunities to improve operations with equipment modifications or new technology. Assume the responsibility for new equipment start-up, and operator training.

• Propose and implement work processes, procedures and technical resources related to Factory Engineering.

• Lead and coordinate the Factory Engineering team and maintain competencies, motivation, and performance to achieve the team’s mission and objectives.

• Propose and control a budget as well as the factory's capital investment plans and related capital expenditures.

• Monitor Factory Engineering in accordance with the key performance indicators.

• Ensure that all the team members are familiar with, and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

Your Competencies:

• Strong technical and managerial skills.

• In-depth knowledge of food processing plant and technology.

  • Maintenance technologies.
  • Operation of utilities.
  • Knowledge of air and air moisture management for hygienic applications
  • Powder handling applications (mixing and blending) to minimize impact on product properties
  • Cleaning solutions for product contact surfaces as well as process environment
  • Assessing appropriate machines for operation in a food environment
  • Installation of appropriate devices to maximize product safety (sieves, X-ray)
  • Knowledge of food safety, regulatory requirements for food safety and hygienic engineering (OSH&R).
  • Working knowledge of food quality and safety systems (HACCP)
  • Analytical skills in problem solving.
  • Communication and networking.
  • Understanding of financial analysis and relevant business drivers. - Standard Costing.
  • Asset and Maintenance Management (AMM).
  • CAPEX budgeting and preparation
  • Project Engineering/Management - Plant Design & Construction.
  • Understanding effect on plant operation of unit operations with dissimilar capacities
  • Executing projects in a high hygiene environment
  • Industrial Services and Energy Management.
  • Knowledge of service utilities for direct food applications (water, compressed air, inert gases)
  • Knowledge of service utilities for indirect food applications (heating and cooling)
  • Good understanding of electricity, control, MES and automation.
  • Process Controls & interfaces with MES / Business layer
  • Electrical distribution & Networks
  • Selection of instruments for use in food applications
  • Devising/Defining control parameters to guarantee food safety and efficient, safe operations


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferably mechanical / electrical / chemical / process engineering.
  • Minimum 15 + years in production environment with hands-on support
  • In-depth knowledge of food processing plant and maintenance technologies
  • Knowledge of food safety, regulatory requirements for food safety and hygienic engineering (OSH&R)
  • Analytical skills in problem solving
  • Communication and networking
  • Understanding of financial analysis and relevant business drivers
  • Supervisory experience in previous assignment
  • MS Office, MS Project.
  • AutoCAD view or Visio
