Johnson Service Group is currently seeking a Director of Finance to oversee income, cash flow, accounting and financial practices across our client's organization based in Charleston, SC. 

It involves close cooperation with managers across the enterprise to ensure high quality Operating Expenses and Capital Expenses (Opex/Capex) budgeting, capital planning, and meaningful management reporting. 


  • Provide supervision, training and coaching to finance and administrative services teams.
  • Develop mechanisms to ensure regular communication and planning of priorities.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for budgeting, capital planning, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, general ledger, and reporting.
  • Produce timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure the documentation of complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions and ensure that all statutory financial requirements of the organization are met.
  • Evaluate the need for new technology to meet need for financial processing, control and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure that financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation.
  • Management of annual audits as well as acquisition of capital assets to ensure proper recording, amortization, and disposal as appropriate.
  • Establish guidelines for budget and forecast preparation to include assistance in negotiating employee insurance and benefit plans.
  • Support CEO and senior managers in matters of governance, oversight, and direction.


  • Manage subordinate managers, and supervisors who supervise other employees in the finance and administration departments.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


  • Requires professional knowledge of the theory, principles, and procedures of accounting, auditing and finance. Requires knowledge of the principles and procedures used in budget preparation, accounting administration, and development of internal controls and public sector accounting.
  • Requires professional knowledge of the principles and techniques used in financial analysis and research. Requires knowledge of the internal and external audit process. Requires successful track record of project management. Requires considerable knowledge of the laws and regulations governing financial transactions. Requires basic knowledge of insurance and insurability. Requires math skills to perform business and statistical calculations. High proficiency in Microsoft products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. Requires well-developed language skills to prepare business plans and reports. Requires well-developed human relation’s skills sufficient to carry out negotiations, make presentations, conduct performance reviews, and communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics or related field and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing multiple departments/disciplines, notably finance, accounting, marketing, human resources, operations and/or administration as well as experience with accounting systems, financial reporting and auditing.
  • Knowledge of public sector accounting, employment law, payroll and benefits.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
