Process Equipment Engineer 

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 5-7 years of experience, preferably more
  • The perfect candidate will have foam thermoforming experience (or similar, transferable experience with plastics)
  • Some supervisory/leadership/management experience is ideal – the more experience the better
  • The candidate chosen for this position will manage a team of about 20 individuals (including 3 technicians, 8 members of the maintenance support group and 8 shift mechanics)
  • There is a strong emphasis on electronics in this position (“I don’t need an electrical engineer, but someone comfortable dealing with, talking about and diagnosing electronics issues”)
  • Strong desire for experience with Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems, PLC (ladder logic) and similar production systems and processes


- Collaborate with management, technicians, and operators to continually improve manufacturing processes (e.g. decrease cycle times/optimize production, maximize throughput rate, increase product quality, and minimize scrap)

- Troubleshoot processing problems

- Create and maintain accurate engineering/process documentation such as line conditions, PLC programs, HMI programs, etc.

- Establish set-up and processing parameters based on material and/or machine capabilities

- Develop procedures to ensure consistent processing of product on all shifts

- Monitor and review daily production efficiencies with Production Manager on machine/process to ensure consistent processing

- Utilize a working knowledge of capital expenditures and accurate documentation of the process

- Directly supervise several technicians and electricians

- Provide direct involvement with process improvement, equipment repairs, upgrades & installation projects as needed

- Provide off-hour technical support when required


- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Controls Engineering OR equivalent combination of education and experience

- Minimum of 5 years of experience with process engineering

- Minimum of 3-5 years of previous management experience

- Technical, mechanical, electrical knowledge and troubleshooting of foam thermoforming machines (will consider transferrable skills from a similar industry)

- Working knowledge of production and safety procedures used in production processes

- Effective oral and written communication skills - especially in writing reports and maintaining documentation

- Solid mathematical skills and numerical accuracy

- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel. Access, Word, Outlook

- Demonstrated success in handling multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

- Demonstrated success in effectively participating as a member of improvement teams


- Demonstrated experience in programming automation equipment specifically for the thermoforming industry

- Working knowledge of foam thermoforming process and tooling would be advantageous
