Johnson Service Group, Inc. is actively seeking a Sr. Manager, Category and Sourcing professional to work with our client outside of the Los Angeles, CA area. 

This Sr. Manager, Category and Sourcing should have extensive experience sourcing cell culture bags, filters, aseptic vials and other single use consumables/disposables and knowledge of their various suppliers in the marketplace.  They must have experience putting risk mitigation plans in place and strong supplier relationships in these categories.  Strong knowledge and experience in the cell and gene area where suppliers are challenged to innovative or demonstrate continuous improvements (Reports to the Director of Procurement)

This influential management role will act an individual contributor sourcing and providing sourcing strategies for single-use consumables in the pharma and biotechnology arena. (Disposable products such as: processing bags, tubing, connectors, bioreactors, filters and other primary and secondary packaging)


  • Develop and execute multi-year category strategies, sourcing strategies and leading sourcing events
  • Assess supplier risks and materials and recommending risk mitigation plans
  • Drive results on category, sourcing, supplier risk activities
  • Responsible for continuous improvements to performance metrics, programs/processes, and innovations to achieve higher levels of business value.
  • Identify, build, and maintain mutually beneficial relationships, partnerships, and alliances with select suppliers through Supplier Relationship Development programs
  • Develop a list of strategic or bottle neck suppliers within a category of spend and manage compliance, relationships, and performance
  • Recommend or implement changes to the organization’s purchasing, supply management and material usage policies as needed
  • RFP, and the negotiation and contracting of supply agreements with strategic terms and conditions.
  • Customize sourcing strategy to drive value in specific functional environment, including legal and regulatory context
  • Initiate/build industry peer relationships
  • Develop a list of strategic and bottle neck suppliers within a category of spend and manage compliance


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or other Sciences or Engineering
  • 6+ years for Category Management related experience
  • Experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry and multi-national organizations a plus.
  • Exceptional understanding and application of procurement principles, concepts, practices, and standards (i.e. effective negotiation, supplier relationship management, business partnering, supplier diversity etc.) along with an in-depth knowledge of industry practices.\Knowledge of sourcing, contract negotiations, and supplier management
  • Strong understanding and use of eProcurement solutions
  • Professional certifications (e.g. CPM, CPIM) is a plus
