<strong>Position Description:</strong>
<br>Material Engineer will provide engineering support and technical guidance to the engineering disciplines for the HLW vitrification design and fabrication processes. The Materials Engineer will perform in-depth engineering analysis, and develop material engineering solutions to address any emergent material engineering related issues. Other key functions of Material Engineer is to develop and maintain material engineering specifications, and resolve material quality issues.<br> 

<br>The Materials Engineer is responsible for reviewing and performing engineering design deliverables to ensure technical adequacy in areas such as coatings, material selection, material compatibility and protection, welding, and metallurgy to help complete the design. The Engineering Specialist will be interfacing with other engineering disciplines and functional groups to solve complex issues associated with the High-Level Waste Facility. &nbsp;This position requires interface with groups across the project, supporting Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC).<br> 

<br>This work will be performed under direction of a senior technical specialist, Project Engineers, and/or Design Authority. The successful applicant will have the ability to interact with all levels of staff in an effective and diplomatic manner.<br> 
<br>
<strong>Position Responsibilities:</strong>

&#9;<li>Serve as residing material technology expert to the WTP project
&#9;<li>Complete reviews and assigned tasks following procedures while assuring technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
&#9;<li>Coordinate with other groups to resolve issues.
&#9;<li>Complete revisions to material specifications and design deliverables.
&#9;<li>Facilitate communication with various stakeholders
&#9;<li>Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team
&#9;<li>Complete assigned engineering tasks within budget/schedule
&#9;<li>Support and implement the nuclear safety quality culture in day-to-day work activities.
</ul>
<strong>Basic Qualifications:</strong>

<ul>
&#9;<li><strong>Masters degree in engineering or related discipline</strong> from an accredited college or university with <strong>2 years of experience or Doctorate in Engineering.</strong>
&#9;<li>Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
&#9;<li><strong>Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.</strong>

Project Overview:<br>
Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground-based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Scope of service in Sentinelâs current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program. A major contractor for the United States and allied governments, Bechtel has handled such efforts as chemical weapons demilitarization projects, missile-defense, infrastructure, base operations, procurement and project management, and restoration and recovery spanning half a century. Job Summary:<br>
In this role, you will prepare design and procurement documents for the Sentinel Project. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating the design as it pertains to chilled water systems and unique requirement driven equipment. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in piping system and equipment design and will be capable of developing design documents and procurement documents, including Specifications, Material Requisitions, Piping and Instrumentation diagrams and equipment data sheets as well as strong organizational and teamwork skills and proven problem-solving capabilities. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines and the client in the development of the design.<br>

Major Responsibilities:<br>
Prepare and check design and procurement documents including but not limited to P&IDs, supporting calculations, data sheets, engineering specifications, and material requisitions<br>
Prepare specifications and data sheets for unique, requirement driven equipment, perform as the technical representative for the associated purchase order or subcontract, review vendor submittals, and manage the selected supplierâs technical performance<br>
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard mechanical engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria to support engineering design decisions<br>
Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides<br>

Required Knowledge and Skills:<br>
Experience in Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) development, chilled water system design, pipe sizing calculations, and equipment specification and procurement development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, power, or chemical process facilities.<br>
Experience with developing custom equipment packages, including skid mounted systems and specialty items, such as security doors.<br>
Experience working on DOD government projects and with the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs).<br>
Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME NQA-1, or AS9100D.<br>
U.S. Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering (or ability to obtain within 12 months).<br>

The engineer often acts as a technical leader for large projects or multiple smaller projects. The engineer could work on several different projects in the span of a single day; every day is vastly different.<br />
Projects include space launch products (commercial space), composite materials / pneumatic systems, high pressure gas storage, aircraft materials, etc. SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION.<br />

<strong>Requirements</strong>
<ul>
&#9;<li>B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.</li>
&#9;<li>7+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering - preparation and development of mechanical design deliverables.</li>
&#9;<li>Proficiency in sizing piping systems, stress analysis, and valve selection.</li>
&#9;<li>Knowledge of design standards, codes, and piping specs & materials, particularly&nbsp;ASME B31.1 & B31.3</li>
&#9;<li>Knowledge of the need, application, and specification of safety valves and devices</li>
&#9;<li>needed to maintain mechanical integrity of the piping systems.</li>
&#9;<li>Understanding of interdisciplinary coordination and EPC workflows.</li>
&#9;<li>Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers.</li>
&#9;<li>Professional Engineering (PE) registration is highly preferred.</li>
&#9;<li>Skilled in AutoCAD/Plant 3D, & Navisworks; Proficient in Microsoft products.</li>

<strong>Key Responsibilities</strong>

<ul>
&#9;<li>Develop conceptual layouts, cost studies, and preliminary designs.</li>
&#9;<li>Apply advanced engineering methods to complex process and utility piping systems.</li>
&#9;<li>Produce estimate-worthy designs for material take-offs.</li>
&#9;<li>Identify critical piping systems.</li>
&#9;<li>Perform stress analysis, according to ASME B31.1 & B31.3 .</li>
&#9;<li>Develop piping material specifications.</li>
&#9;<li>Produce detailed sketches for in-office designers and for construction support.</li>
&#9;<li>Assist drafting teams with layout and detailing issues.</li>
&#9;<li>Review vendor and interdisciplinary drawings for mechanical input.</li>
&#9;<li>Review fabrication drawings for conformance to engineered drawings and</li>
&#9;<li>specifications.</li>
&#9;<li>Ensure designs are efficient, constructible, and meet client expectations.</li>
&#9;<li>Check calculations and designs for accuracy and compliance with code</li>
&#9;<li>specifications and for conformance with good engineering standards.</li>
&#9;<li>Support scope development, procurement documentation, and the development of equipment package & specifications.</li>
&#9;<li>Conduct fieldwork for data collection and construction </li>
</ul>
